Hints & Tips
Here
are a few simple tips for Photoshop retouching in general:
- “Don’t
retouch too much”. Rankin. Over-retouching is easier to do than
most people realise, so always start with just the big stuff and avoid too much blending and
softening.
- Learn to
use the rubber stamp tool more than the spot healing or patch tools. Using a small brush in a dotting like
pattern can create more natural blending then using large or soft brushes.
- Learn to
use colour correction in masked layers to eliminate shadows or tone down highlights while retaining all the
underlying texture. I would mostly use curves and selective correction as opposed to any other colour
correction function.
- Be
confident in your work and don’t keep too many layers unless you think you may add to them or change them.
- Don’t
work too close up, zoom out to retain an overall view of your work. You can always go in and sort out any
fine detail if necessary later.
